As Jodie Foster says in the below call-to-action video with Matt Damon, millions of women and their families struggle daily to access clean water to survive. "They face an impossible choice: certain death without water or possible death from illness," Foster says. "They are simply working to create a more dignified life."
Around the world, more than 1 billion people lack clean water, according to Water.org, and 4,000 mothers around the world will lose a child due to water-borne disease every day. "This is absurd," Matt Damon says. "It doesn't have to be that way. For just 25 bucks you can save that child."
Women coming together in their community to support wells and take out small loans for household water connections and toilets has
wider benefits, Water.org reports. Girls' attendance at school rises along with
their education levels, and their hopes. Helping families to secure their basic
daily share of clean water has another hope-filled upside. Mothers are safer
because they don't have to venture to dangerous places in search of relief and
