In it, news anchor Lena Alwash is in the midst of a live broadcast (about what we can’t say, as it’s in Arabic), when suddenly her young daughter skips into the studio, coming up behind mom before placing a cell phone on the news desk. She catches hell swiftly and silently from total-pro Alwash, who shoots her a look of daggers, then flies outta there, certain to really get it later.
My daughter has interrupted phone interviews that I’ve conducted at home, prevented them from happening in the first place, and unwittingly scribbled on story notes that I was certain she’d never go near. It’s all turned out fine, just as it seems to have for Alwash (because really, don’t we love her even more now?). But if anyone still believes that it’s possible for a working parent’s professional and personal lives to remain truly and forever separate, well…that’s a good one.
