Parenting Guru: Monday Night sushi gives us time to connect

I'm not the most traditional mama, which you already know if you read my blog. And I'm really not into traditions either, for that matter. Except...except...Monday Night Sushi (MNS). (Cue the MNF music...).

Monday Night Sushi was originally Tuesday Night Sushi, back when Sarah had guitar lessons from 5 - 5:30 on Tuesdays downtown. I really don't know why we went the first time. I was probably just craving sushi. But she loved it, so we made it a habit. She was seven at the time, and I was a single mama, as I am now, in grad school at Texas, so there wasn't much time when it was just the two of us.

We got to know one of the sushi chefs, and after we became regulars we would often get little treats from him and the wait staff. It was fun; the staff was always happy to see us.

Now it's a little different. I'm not in grad school, but I travel a lot for work. Sarah's in middle school. But MNS is our sacred time. We feel celebrated there. It's our time together. After a bad day, it makes us feel better. After a good day? It's icing on the cake of this fabulous life we have together.
