As you are no doubt aware if you are on the Internet right now, today is Prince George's birthday. If it was a just world, we'd all have the day off from work, free to fling baby food in the streets in trademark George fashion, to chop our striped overalls at the knees to replicate a classic George look, to tenderly grasp a handful of the nearest human hair to honor one of George's favorite pastimes. Alas, it is only an international holiday in our hearts and minds, and reading about his birthday party online will have to suffice.

George's birthday party was the Place To Be on Tuesday afternoon, as pretty much all of the prominent British royals (with the exception of a few-we'll get there in a moment) descended upon Kensington Palace to celebrate the young prince turning one. Queen Elizabeth was one of the first to arrive for the 4 p.m. shindig. Others in attendance, per People's report: George's parents, Kate and William (whom you may have seen pictured on this very web site a time or two); grandparents Carole and Michael Middleton; Uncle Harry, Aunt Pippa, and Uncle James; godparent Zara Phillips (William's first cousin) with her husband Mike and their daughter Mia (the recipient of aforementioned food-slinging); and godparents Emilia Jardine-Paterson (one of Kate's childhood friends) and Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton (William and Kate's former private secretary).

Notable no-shows: George's paternal grandparents! Prince Charles and Camilla are in Scotland this week on an official visit, where they were photographed accepting a large stuffed squirrel on George's behalf. (George no doubt just texted Blue Ivy Carter: "is he serious? Oversized stuffed animals as gifts are so four months ago")

As for what went down at the party itself, no details have been confirmed. People notes that "speculation ran high" that "jam pennies" (which are, as you might have suspected, jelly-filled sandwiches cut in the shape of pennies) would be served, and "tiny egg sandwiches" were also a possibility. And we can only hope the assembled guests took part in a spirited round of "Pin The Fascinator On The Donkey" and a game of "Musical Thrones."
