Sometimes it feels like the more you want it, the longer it takes. Dr. Hal Danzer, fertility specialist and partner and co-founder of Southern California Reproductive Center, shared the following tips about the best sex position for getting pregnant and more.
1. Position: Missionary.
There's no real scientific evidence that one position is much more effective than any other. But the goal of baby-making sex is to get the sperm as close as possible to the cervix. That means deep thrusting is the way to go, which in turn means the man-on-top-woman-on-bottom gives you the best angle for close access. (For more baby-making sex tips, read on!) Doggy style, on the other hand, tends to be the least effective in getting pregnant.
2. Tilt those hips.
Following sex, a woman should put her hips on a pillow and lie there for about 20 minutes. That helps the seminal fluid pool in the back of the vagina, upping your odds of fertilization.
3. Timing is everything.
Buy an ovulation prediction kit at any drug store to find out when you're ovulating. Because the egg only lasts 24 hours once a month, you have a pretty narrow window for conception. These kits are accurate and help pinpoint the most productive times for sex.
4. In sickness and in health
Antihistamines, like Robitussin, have actually been tied to pregnancy rates. We're not suggesting that you take the 'tussin when you're healthy. But because the medicine loosens and thins mucus (including cervical mucus) it can actually up the odds of pregnancy. Danzer has had women come in who've tried for months if not years, to get pregnant with no luck. Then they get a cold and bam! It's baby time.
Of course, once you get pregnant, you're going to need to know all about the best positions for pregnant bellies.
