Fight bullying with Love is Louder and Hannah Harrington's new novel, 'Speechless.'
-The Betty Editors, BettyConfidential.com
Bullying in schools has always been a problem, but in recent years, it's been getting more and more out of control-and that's why we're one hundred percent behind Speechless, the new novel by author Hannah Harrington.
Speechless centers around Chelsea, a sixteen-year-old who relishes her in-crowd status, gained through her friendship with the popular Kristen and cemented by her penchant for passing along gossip. But after Chelsea drunkenly outs her classmate Noah at a party, he is brutally beaten by two jocks, one of whom is Kristen's boyfriend. When Chelsea goes to the police about what happened, her world implodes, and she, formerly party of the bullying crowd, becomes bullied herself. In response, Chelsea takes a vow of silence, communicating her thoughts by writing on a small whiteboard. Her vow, along with new friendships and a budding relationship with Noah's best friend, change and deepen Chelsea, who learns about the power of love over hate, real friendship, and being true to yourself.
Powerful, no? Even better, Harlequin Teen has teamed up with Love Is Louder for the release of the book to raise awareness about bullying. Love Is Louder was started by The Jed Foundation, MTV, and actress Brittany Snow to support anyone feeling mistreated, misunderstood, or alone. It's hundreds of thousands of people just like you who have turned this idea into a movement-a movement of all types of people who have come together to raise the volume around the message that love and support are louder than any internal or external voice that brings us down.
