    A Cause 4Paws Rescue Blog

    ---October 14th, 2011

A bit late in starting this, I am not usually on time for nothing-never really have been. Dad called me Pokey for a reason-I poked along, always last in doing anything-slow bloomer. But this blog is for the Rescue I am involved in, A cause 4Paws, and hoping that it comes together so I can help the dogs I see that are being destroyed for all the wrong reasons. Because they are barkers. Because they can't be bothered with. Because they are no longer small and cute, but a large handful. Because the owners don't realize that to give up the dog is better than neglecting the dog. All the reasons that rescues are needed. To foster dogs back into health, trustful, well-mannered family members again. There's not enough people to do this, and do it right. I am entering a Pepsi "refresheverything.com" grant program that with enough votes, I may recieve a $5000 to start with so we can help more rescues. A 7yo female pitbull changed things for me. She was found at my husband's shop. Half of her face was torn off. She obviously was a friendly well-takened care of family dog, but she was probably placed in adoption or stolen, because she was used as bait for the training of aggressive Pitbulls. A few bite marks and her right side of her face mostly missing, down to the bone was gone. The dogcatcher came and got her, she went to the vets (as per CT law) to be put down, but the vet took pity and cleaned out her wound, two days later we went to get her. Vet care was provided for by the vet association she was at, and she slowly healed. The scarring is extensive, and it pulled her eye shut because the skin was missing, and scar tissue didn't stretch as much as needed to cover the area she had open. The first skin graft gave her more ability to close the wound, the second surgery gave her enough skin about her eye to open and use it naturally. This dog went through all this without a single cry or complaint, and I have only heard her recently start to show protectiveness about the house-barking at the doorbell, mailman on the porch, etc. She was adopted in less than a week when she went back to the vet's and was there for people to see and meet and fall in love with. It was hard to let her go-hubby wished to keep her, but I told him we cannot foster more dogs if we keep all the ones we do foster-we don't have that much room. So this lady pit started in me a need to "give back" to the dogs that are hurt, abused, neglected, unwanted, and need us to help them. Many are savable, they just need the time and help to get back to normal for them. Destroying ones just because they are no longer wanted is an atrocity. Someone took the time to "make" these pups, why they did could cover a whole blog, but mostly it is because of greed. But the animals suffer. I have seen pit pups being sold for $100 a piece out of the trunk of a car-does that backyard breeder care where those precious babies have gone? Does that non-caring idiot realize that one of those pups may grow up to be the dog that mauls a baby to death-as we had in CT just last week? Two Adult pits mauled a 17month old girl to death-in front of her family-what is that poor family going through? The dogs broke into her yard and attacked her-she did nothing to provoke them, other than being there. Those were immediately put down, although the owner should of been also "immediately put down", he trained killers, and thats what they did. But I want to help the dogs that are salvagable and help them go to the right families and responsible owners that are out there, waiting for them. Many can help by voting daily from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30 on my cause-it will help put us in the top 20 that recieve the grants. I didn't apply for a $50,000 or the other large $25,000 grant, because there are organizations that are larger and could use those grants. I applied for what would help me get to the first steps of starting a rescue- a non-profit, supported by donations and love, rescue. I can do it with all the votes that people can make,-once they send me the actual link to my "site" on Pepsi I will post it- and just a vote a day from anyone reading this could help get me in the running for the top 20-those are the "-grant-" spots, and I thank everyone who took the time to listen look and read this. I will be updating as I know things happen-Thanks again for all help of any kind! Even prayers help. Bonnie
