    Earthquake Making Cats Suicidal?

    Can cats be suicidal?An aftershock of the 7.1 earthquake that struck Turkey's Van City in late 2011 is apparently being felt throughout the cat community. Professor Abuzer Tas of the Faculty of Veterinary Studies at Van's Century University, claims there have been mass feline suicide attempts in the area as a result of the powerful quake.

    "After the quake that jolted Van, a large number of cats are throwing themselves from heights," according to Professor Tas. He believes that local felines developed psychological disorders stemming from the natural disaster.

    How exactly? "They are getting fidgety by remaining in confined areas for a long time," he explained, "and they are throwing themselves out in order to free themselves."

    Although Professor Tas didn't provide statistics to back up his theory, he noted that there has been an increase of cats getting treated at his hospital for broken bones after jumping from great heights.

    While Tas's theory is unproven -- cat depression is a real issue. Some warning signs to be aware of include:
