Pet Ink: 8 Wild Pictures of Animals with Tattoos

Pet InkI really wish I was joking about this post, but...I'm not. Apparently there's a new trend in the pet world: to ink your pets, particularly the hairless ones.

I love tattoos. I have a ton of them myself. But I also have the nifty gift of being able to give "informed consent" which, you know, pets can't do. So I don't approve.

To tattoo an animal means to put them under anesthesia, but honestly, there's no reason to force an animal to undergo lengthy times under anesthesia considering the risks. The longer the animal is asleep, the greater the risk -- just for a cosmetic procedure that the owner thinks is cool. What do you think about this new trend?

Dogs are often tattooed in their ears, usually with an ID number to help find them if they get lost, but this whole image thing is new.

In this photo the cat is still anesthetized following it's tattoo. I found several shots of this cat being tattooed while under, so I do think it's real. It's a beautiful tattoo -- just wish it was on someone who could give consent.

These pigs must be the fanciest guys around with the Louis Vuitton logo stamped all over them. I hope their owners feel a little more classy having done this, especially considering what a nasty business tattooing pigs is.
