    The secret world of cats

How did paw prints end up on the PC? Why is there catnip in the kitchen drawers? And what became of the ball of yarn meant for aunt Nona's new scarf?

The world (and by "the world" I mean "me") may never know the answers to these perplexing questions. But a new study from Friskies has finally shed some light on the situation. Using a bit of ingenious technology - mini kitty cams, attached to collars - Purina has infiltrated the secret world of our feline friends. And what they've found might come as something of a surprise.

Our cats are more curious than most of us thought. And, believe it or not, "cat-napping" probably ranks pretty low on your kitty's list of "to-do's."

According to the collar cam (which captured still photographs every 15 minutes), our cats would rather be on the prowl for adventure than on your bed taking a nap. In fact, only 6% of the cats in the study spent the majority of their day snoozing, while double that number preferred to spend their time playing with other pets. 7% enjoyed climbing and playing with houseplants, and 5% preferred to play with toys. But their very favorite activity? Surveying their domain - 21% of our cats actually spend most of the day staring out the window.

Kinda makes you wonder what they're thinking about, doesn't it?

How does your kitty spend her day? Leave a comment, and let us know!

Do you protect your pet against heartworm?

    Absolutely! No, I don't bother

I have a beautiful little calico. We call her the princess because she has a mind of her own,and she only wants to be petted at her own convenience. We also have a beautiful gray long haired cat that recently turned 21 years old and he is the sweetest boy. For all you cat lovers out there, you can post their photo's on picato.net. Don't forget to look for Orian and gray wilder!

My cats are 15 and 13, respectively, so they don't do much. Sleep, eat, check out what I'm doing, back to sleep. They're in good health, and I'm fortunate to have had them for so long.

Cats view you as a big cat.

We have two cats and an older kitten. My kitty loves to snuggle with me on the couch, watch the bird feeders and play. My sister's cat is very prissy and doesn't like to be touched, but she does love staring out the windows or napping. My mom's kitten loves playing with an old sock we gave him, "killing" toys, begging for fruit to eat, playing with water (any water, sinks, water bowls, bathtubs and toilets are all favorite "fountains") and playfully "attacking" the two older cats.

I have a tortoise shell callico female two years old named calleigh. Shes our daughter she can be sweet, mean, devilish all and all she is one beautiful cat with a great personality. Shes dependent but when shes wants petting, brushing, or playing she will go out of her way to let you know. And talk, thats all she ever does especially when she wants a taste of can food from the icebox she will attack the icebox door and will not backdown till she recieves. She will go to the front door on a beautiful day to let you know she wants to sit and look for awhile and on a cooler day she will go into our room and go under covers to get cozy and nap. Loves looking out windows also. Her favorite toy is a laser light to chase. She has brought so much joy into our lives. Shes a one family cat. Shes very timid when company comes by she will hide till they leave, will only stay around if she really feels comfortable with persons that come around quite a bit. As you can see I can go on, on, on, about calleigh. Of all my other cats "Ki" siamese, and "Snuggers" a tabby which were beautiful handsome males,"Ki" real dependent, "Snuggers" a lover who could not get enough loving and pettin "Calleigh I must say has a very outgoing personality. We love her so much, guaranteed everyday there is something new shes really smart and clever. Please enjoy your special cats and kittens. Always Sharon and Joe

I have 7 cats.Onyx(black)was born here(Sept.1997)is the queen and sleeps most of the day.Zinger(my silver panther)I took in after his owner died(about 7 yrs)runs/hides when people come over.He loves to go for walks with me and loves to "mate" with stuffed animals(and me sometimes too).Pickle(calico)was a "barn cat" I took in sick with URI and pregnant(still snots daily-nasal aspirator works great-aka "snotsucker")She is the sweetest girl ever-a living angel as she helped making two other cats who died feel love by washing them/curling up by them in their last days. She doesn't have a mean, sassy calico bone in her fluffy body.Zinnia-grey/white tuxedo(found on side of road pregnant)is sweet and loves guys more than girls. Her babies(born Sept.08)Jezabella(maine coon looking)aka mighty hunter who loves to snuggle(smother)loves to lie on shoulders with feet hanging and Tater, short hair grey/black tiger is a little love bug NEEDING and GETTING attention from all(except his mom)and should have been named George due to his curiosity and sassiness(attacks toilet paper, paper towel, toes, noses, climbing trees & ladder to get a look from the roof...just for fun.Last is HoneyBee who just "showed up" one night looking in the window-beautiful black/white fluffy tuxedo with white on tip of tail...is a bully(terrorizes Zinnia just by looking at her)loves to "play" with Tater/Jezabella and stalks Zinger. He didn't know how to "snuggle" but learned quickly though clumsy as he would just "plop" down and not move.Once he got over his nightly "MEOWING and his "pitbull like biting" on me-he found his forever home...just to get him to not be a bully. All of them, except Zinnia love to go on walks with me around the yard and in the woods. As for our lone dog Tassie-she tries to guard the bedroom so they can't get on the bed!

I have a cat that fetches too. He loves fetching and chasing anything. His toys and even bottle caps. He carries them around in his mouth, which is hilarious to watch. And he brings it to you and will sit right in front of you and stare until you throw it.

Our family has two rather splendid felines named Dexter and Lily. Dex has reached the grand old age of twelve and our youngest tiger Lily is three years old. Weather permitting both cats love to venture outside and on a warm sunny day our Dex can be found on the front porch of our home curled up on a old wicker chair. This is one of his favorite spots as he loves to watch the finches busily building their nests in the hanging flowering baskets there, he never bothers to pounce on them though he seemingly looks at them with one eye open and one eye closed as the parent birds to be go about their day. Like many cats our Lily cat loves to hunt and following a summer rain fall she can be found entering her cat door with a mouthful of frog or a wiggly worm protruding from it, to which she then deposits it at ones feet,''Yippee!

I have an almost 9 year old spayed indoor female cat her name is Patches she would rather spend her time gazing out the window alot except in the winter I have plastic over them and she can not see her favorite birds and squirrels. I keep her happy and occupied by giving her catnip, lots of love, and plenty of playtime so she doesn't end up bored. I have had her since she was 3 1/2 months old and I love her more than anything else. She is spoiled and very happy being the queen of her castle.

My Cat Bagwell (after the Astro's Jeff Bagwell) has a terrace that he goes out on and watches the world go by. He has a running fight with two mockingbirds that nest nearby so he slides under the lounge chair and aannoys them during spring and summer. He also has cat grass that I grow for him. We are on the fourth floor amd he is safe, so he gets the benefit of outside and the safety of being able to come in through a cat door.

Tiger is the name of our cat and he is just a little over a year old. Yes, he is neutered and this did not calm him down, but he is still my baby. My husband gets really irritated because Tiger tends to run around all night making some kind of noise. He now gets locked up in the laundry room, but if he makes enough noise in there, he eventually gets to come out and be free. I think he now realizes this and has done it more frequently. He loves to torment the dogs from window to window. I have eight dogs, all very friendly. The dogs will not harm the cat, except for the newest member (German Shephard). They are all strays, but they need a home also. I just want for people to realize that animals need love also.

My beloved siamese mix who passed away loved to watch TV.
She would rub up against the TV table so I could turn it on, and yes, she preferred some shows, like "Friends" and "Sex and the City."
Not just my shows, though. I'd catch her watching "Smackdown" and resented it when I'd change the channel.
