1. Fold a square or rectangle of paper into accordion pleats. The number of pleats determines the number of points on the ornament: Four pleats equals eight points.
2. Fold the accordion of paper in half to find the center; staple it once at the center. If your ornament is too long to be stapled, you can fashion a staple out of wire; insert the wire through two small holes in the center, and twist the back.
3. Make cuts in the folded paper; the corners you cut off (forming the points) should be the flaps of paper, not the folds. Experiment with plain paper before working with fancier stock.
