This morning, a flashing billboard outside my Times Square office read, " Almost getting it kind of together, " with a close-up of Lena Dunham's eye. It's a promo for season 2 of Girls, which premieres next month. The show received critical acclaim (and lots of it), Dunham has been revered as the talent of her generation, and blah blah blah. But the real breakthrough of Girls was Dunham's naked body, often tangled up in sheets or jiggling mid-coitus. Her avoirdupois grounds the show-a quiet and constant reminder that while Girls might be a comedy that takes a wry look at infidelity, career worries, and friend breakups, Dunham isn't joking. less
