No fewer than three major museums pay homage to James Turrell this spring with a joint retrospective of the Land Art pioneer's oeuvre. In May, LACMA will exhibit more than 40 works, ranging from sensory-deprivation installations to Turrell's recent hologram experiments. The following month, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston presents six of the artist's light-based installations along with a photography portfolio of his site-specific work-in-progress, Roden Crater. Also in June, the Guggenheim will show visitors the light (literally) with a monumental projection piece mounted within the museum's rotunda.
