The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Mohsin Hamid's New Book
Pakistani author Mohsin Hamid's chilling 2007 novel The Reluctant Fundamentalist, in which an erudite immigrant making a steady American ascent, grows disillusioned in a constricting, post-9/11 America is brought to life on the big screen this spring. Directed by Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding, The Namesake), with a cast that includes Liev Schreiber, Riz Ahmed, Kiefer Sutherland, and Kate Hudson, the film (which opened this year's Venice Film Festival), will be released just after Hamid publishes his third novel, How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia, which in mocking self-help format, details another native son's trajectory within his own country, with the tensions from his humble beginnings and a pretty girl always within range.
