A fantastical telling of the extravagant and impenitently ambitious former First Lady of the Philippines Imelda Marcos (she of the 3,000-odd pairs of shoes) Here Lies Love was first conceived as a song cycle by Byrne and Slim in 2010. A fantastical telling of the extravagant and impenitently ambitious former First Lady of the Philippines Imelda Marcos (she of the 3,000-odd pairs of shoes) Here Lies Love was first conceived as a song cycle by Byrne and Slim in 2010. Translated to a musical last summer at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, it sold out all five shows, and arrives this April at the Public Theater in New York, directed by Alex Timbers (who wrote Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, and directed Peter and the Starcatcher), with choreography by Annie-B Parson, and an electric list of guest vocals.
