Reason 2: Hairline fractures are appearing in Apple’s leadership

Post-Jobs Apple is only as strong as the hand-picked team he had put together before stepping down. Bob Mansfield (far right), senior VP of hardware engineering, announced his retirement in June. For much of his 13-year tenure, Mansfield had been responsible for the engineering of virtually all of Apple’s core products, including the iPod, iPhone, iPad and MacBook Air. Employee resistance was so strong following his announcement that he agreed to stick around as an adviser – for $2 million a month.
