American Music Awards Red Carpet Trend: Cutout Dresses (Lots of Them)

From plunging necklines to backless gowns to thigh-high slits, famous women are always seeking creative ways to reveal skin on the red carpet. In 2009, dresses with cutouts emerged as the sexy new fad, and four years later, the trend is bigger than ever. While cutouts began as a more subtle style—with geometric peeks of skin around the neckline or midsection—the trend has morphed into a much more risqué look with giant, bold slashes that reveal large areas of flesh, showing off plenty of cleavage, and putting hipbones on full display. At Sunday night's American Music Awards, nine celebrities relied on cutouts to create headlines—though they weren't all favorable.
