RETINOL AND E-PULSE
What it does: The combination is used in a two-step peel: Applied on top of a layer of retinol cream, a serum delivers an imperceptible current of energy, dubbed E-Pulse, that makes the retinol even more effective in stimulating cell turnover. In a study that compared the RoC system to three professional glycolic peels, all women using the RoC products had smoother skin texture; 97 percent saw improved crow's-feet, fine lines, and texture; and 88 percent saw more even pigmentation. (The percentages in the professional peel group were significantly smaller in all categories.) While McDaniel was skeptical that even the best over-the-counter product can really beat a dermatologist-administered peel, he says, "I'm very impressed with the study results."
