Journalist Elizabeth Eaves takes readers on a vicarious journey through Egypt, Jordan, Australia, and elsewhere in her memoir "Wanderlust: A Love Affair With Five Continents." Unlike those who long to put down roots, Eaves discovers that she is happiest when she's freewheeling through the unknown, defining who she is by what she is not. "Anywhere exotic, as a permanent stranger, I could define myself against everything around me," she writes. "Egypt would never take me in. The boundaries that encircled me there had also made me feel at home." She craves cultural anonymity and adventure, escaping relationships and responsibilities by relocating over and over again, and she takes us with her as she spends her 20s chasing the exhilarating, the exotic, and the exciting. Each country presents the opportunity to craft a new life and discover a new lover, but somewhere along the way Eaves ends up finding herself. Now based in New York, she neatly sums up her psyche: "Travel equals longing equals love. "
