I am one of those people who really can't stand surprises. I like to know what's happening or what is about to happen well in advance - my heart can't take the thump thump of being caught off guard. I am sure you've heard the term "scaredy cat" - someone who seems to be excessively fearful; this seems to be a very accurate description because from what I can see cats sure are extremely jumpy when they're surprised.
