This Woman Gets Hit in the Head for the Sake of Art (Sort of)

Getting hit in the face really hurts and one of the reasons we humans have reflexes is to avoid this from happening. But, oddly, photographer Kaija Straumanis purposely puts herself in the line of fire — all for the sake of her art, of course. Straumanis decided to start getting slammed in the head sporadically by flying objects starting on her 26th birthday for a “365 Project” (a popular endeavor on Flickr in which people take one picture every day for one year) and wanted to kick off the task with a bang (literally). While it takes the New York-based artist about 50 frames to get the shot just right, she definitely doesn’t put herself in the line of fire that many times. In fact, it’s all completely faked. “It really is amazing what you can do with photo editing software because no way in hell would I have done this for real, much less voluntarily,” she tells Yahoo Shine. So far, Straumanis hasn't suffered from any concussions — although she still has over 200 days to go. — Lauren Tuck, Shine Staff
