Matcha Latte
As much as I love cappuccino, the assertiveness of espresso short-circuits my day. I need a caffeine fix that burns clean. When I tasted a matcha latte at Bosie Tea Parlor in New York, I knew I'd found my breakfast drink. The delicious grassy flavor of the powdered green tea is mellowed by hot, frothy milk (or milk substitute), and the low-impact (high-antioxidant) buzz is wonderfully sustained. I now make it in the office after I've finished my protein shake and need a bump to get me through to lunch. Okay, so I'm the dork who has her own bamboo whisk to stir the powder, and I order my tea from Kyoto, Japan (I like the Matcha Superior at hibiki-an.com). But in the end my habit costs less than hitting the coffee shop every morning, and the ritual is much more calming.
