Potato stamps are a fun, easy way to make personalized decorations. Start by cutting a potato in half crosswise. Potato stamps are a fun, easy way to make personalized decorations. Start by cutting a potato in half crosswise. Next, press a cookie cutter about a half inch into the cut surface of the potato, and use a small sharp knife to carve away the potato around the cookie cutter's edges. Continue cutting all the way around the cookie cutter until the desired shape is achieved. If you don't have an appropriate cookie cutter, you can use a knife to carve potato halves into simple shapes like hearts, lips, or X's and O's. Dip the potato into washable paint or ink, and you've got a stamp that can be used to decorate anything from place mats to paper cups.

Cutting potato stamps can be tricky for small hands, so we recommend adults create the stamps ahead of time and let kids get busy with the paint and paper products. Keep in mind that unlike their rubber counterparts, potato stamps don't last very long; use them within 24 hours. less
