The fashion industry is a force that is constantly changing and evolving- yet despite the years that go by, some sillouhettes by designers will forever be a staple in each and every single one of our wardrobes. To say that Christian Dior was an innovative force in the fashion industry would be an understatement. Not only was he the man behind the beautiful clothing, but he also played a significant role in reestablishing Paris as the capital of Fashion.

LIFE.com looks back at when (the now most recognized name in fashion) just started out in 1947- Harper's Bazaar editor Carmel Snow dubbed it the "New Look": full of voluptous dresses, rich fabrics, and beautiful sillouhettes.
