The sheath dress is a wardrobe staple. It is perhaps the one dress that flatters most figures and sizes. It comes in different hemlines so there is a style for work and play. This fall, the sheath is becoming an early trend. Check out the styles of sheath waiting for you.
The Standard Sheath
The standard sheath with the modest neckline that falls to the knees is a wardrobe essential. This dress can be worn at work, after work, to semi-formal gatherings and on dates. If you don't already own a sheath dress consider purchasing a basic, knee-length sheath in black.
The peplum feature is the non-curvy girl's best friend. This feature on skirts, dresses or jackets creates the appearance of an inward curve at the waist and an outward curve at the hip. For those without waist definition the peplum sheath may be the fall dress for you. If you are looking for a style that can be worn to work make sure the dress falls no higher than two-thumb's length above the knee. For a trendier peplum sheath look for a mixed media version this fall.
Colorblocking is a fun way to spice up this figure flattering dress. Go for a classic Mondrian colorblock or choose a style that uses colorblocking to enhance the figure. To optically change your figure's appearance, choose a black/white sheath that has black colorblocked sections at the side waist. This makes the waist look smaller and the bust and hip appear curvier.
Graphic prints are once again a trend in fashion for fall. Graphic or optical prints look attractive on a sheath dress. Black and white prints flatter virtually every figure and are safe for work as well. Wear a blazer or solid black suit jacket over the dress at work.
Pumps Work Best
Even though the luxury slipper is a trend for fall, flats do not work well with the sheath dress. While the shift is not a formal dress it is not a casual dress either. Even a luxury flat would feel out place with this dress. I know ankle boots and booties are a favorite for fall but save them for another dress style. These shoes can downgrade the style factor of the sheath.
Pumps work best with sheath. They can be prints, colorblock, patent or matte. Just make sure they are not strappy and the heel does not reach stiletto heights.
Are you ready to take on the fall sheath? If you are not into trends consider a standard black sheath for your work wardrobe. If you like trying a new trend each season then purchase one of the trendier sheaths this fall. I highly recommend purchasing a sheath or two for fall. Don't worry even the trendier styles stand a good chance of being in style for a few more seasons.
