Real money confessions: Money secrets women hide

Money causes some dirty little secrets in more than a few marriages. According to an article by CNN Money, 36 to 40 percent of couples admit to lying to one another about money. These numbers show financial secrets aren't uncommon. We asked the question, "Do you have a money secret that he doesn't know about?" Not everyone was willing to talk, but a few were willing to clear the air.

"I saw my sister go through a financially devastating divorce. It scared me. I squirrel away a little money each week in a 'just in case' fund. It makes me feel better." - Michelle Jackson, Montgomery, Ala.

"Before I got married, I didn't want to tell him about how much credit card debt I had. I stayed on top of my secret until I lost my job. Now he knows and I feel like he hates me. I hope it gets better." - Cindy McNeal, Jackson, Miss.

"I hide the bills sometimes just because I don't want to fight about it. I know this isn't the right thing to do but he wears me out nagging me about every penny." - Starla Weatherly, Irvington, Ala.

"Shopping makes me feel in control but I keep spending money that I'm supposed to be saving. I know it's going to catch up with me someday. I hope I can put it back before he takes a trip to the bank." - Melody Scarborough, Baton Rouge, La.

"Some nights I can't sleep and I end up shopping online. I only shop the discount sites but I do spend moolah he doesn't know about. If he asks I tell him I got it on sale." - Lela Parton, Jacksonville, Fla.

"My parents gave me my inheritance early but my husband is so financially irresponsible, I don't want him to know about it. I dread telling him." - Michelle Lewis, Leakesville, Miss.

"I revenge spend. Every time he splurges on something stupid, so do I. It's a vicious cycle." - Ona Martinez, Pensacola, Fla.

"My fashion addiction is much more expensive than I tell him. If he knew I had purses that were $300 he'd hit the roof!" - Gina Terry, Chattanooga, Tenn.

"I throw my brown bag lunches away. He's such a stickler about saving money on lunch but I love the girl time. I feel like such a liar but it's worth it, I think." - Montana Flowers, Augusta, Ga.

"Once, I started a makeup business that he didn't know about. After UPS began delivering makeup to my door, he figured it out. I had to return it all." - Dana Torres, Meridian, Miss.
