At the start of each year, we make resolutions that we feel strongly about at the time, but come to regard as too disciplinary after a few months. We vow to lose weight, exercise more often or spend less money. We resolve to cut back on caffeine, stop eating carbs, and make other promises to ourselves that are just too hard to keep up with. This year, make a New Year's resolution that you're sure to keep.
Why do we feel that a resolution has to be a sacrifice? This year, promise that you'll make more time for you. Whether it's blocking out more time for reading, spending a night out with friends, or splurging on a pedicure, there are many ideas for New Year's resolutions that you'll actually look forward to keeping. Sounds pretty good, doesn't it?
In general, women tend to put themselves last. This is especially true for moms. It may seem overwhelming to come up with ideas for New Year's resolutions that don't involve doing a thing for anyone else. Here are a few ideas to inspire you:
Get a new hairstyle - Bring in the new year with an updated look. Treat yourself to a new hairstyle, hair color, or both!
Go to a wine tasting - Spend an evening with friends or your significant other, and head out to a wine tasting. This is a truly unique experience and something everyone should try once.
Take a night off - Vow to take one night off each week, and let the family fend for themselves at dinnertime. It's not a bad thing to let them eat soup and sandwiches, or heat leftovers from time to time.
Join a book club - This is a great New Year's resolution for women because there are multiple benefits to it. Joining a book club will get you out of the house once a week, give you an opportunity to make new friends, and give you a reason to spend reading each night.
Get a massage - If you've never had a professional massage before, make it your mission to get one this year. For 60 minutes, you'll be pampered and relaxed in ways you never knew possible. You'll feel refreshed and energized for several days after.
Try a pedicure - Each summer you tell yourself you should get a pedicure before putting on sandals, but you don't want to spend the money on yourself. This year, do it! This is a New Year's resolution for women that feels great, is affordable, and not that time-consuming. Your feet will thank you for it.
Start a Bunco club- Bunco is a fast-paced dice game that is played with a group of people. Gather together neighbors, family, and friends for Bunco night once each week. It's great fun, and is an excellent excuse to hang out with other women and cut loose.
Find a signature dish - Cooking and baking isn't a chore for everyone. Some women really love it, myself included. If you are such a woman, make it your mission to try several new recipes and find your new signature dish for either a family meal or for entertaining.
Join a coupon swap - Whether you love or hate those extreme couponing shows, you have to admit there's money to be saved in clipping coupons. It can be a fun pastime when done with other women, too. Head to your local library and find out if they host a coupon swap. If not, start one of your own. It's a great way to meet people, and you'll reduce your monthly spending in the process.
