align="left" height="400" width="400">Years ago, shortly after I
fell in love with the book Seabiscuit and the then the
movie that followed, I saw a news piece about the author Laura
Hillenbrand.
In her mid-30s at the time, Hillenbrand had been suffering from
chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) for twenty years.

She said that the four years it took her to write the account of
the legendary race horse helped her to transcend her debilitating
illness.

Since 4th grade, Jessica Terry was living with an
indeterminable stomach disease. Eight years later in a science
class, Jessica diagnosed her own illness. Momlogic talked
to Jessica and her mom about their journey, and how she's doing

Does your doctor have good manners?

align="left" width="265" height="400">Once upon a time, my mother
and I went to the same doctor. Many friends of our family also went
to her and so we both felt assured she'd be a great fit for us,
too. We couldn't have been more wrong.

Around the time that my mother had a string of worrisome medical
complications and the doctor told her she was a hypochondriac and
to please obsess less, she was very flippant about a pretty serious
event in my own life that potentially had some big health
ramifications. Fortunately for both of us, our health remained in
tact and we could support each other in finding a new doctor,
STAT.

I thought of that doctor with the terrible bedside manner when I
read this
article by a psychiatrist, in part on how doctors should be trained
in patient etiquette.

Be honest: How often do you do breast self-exams?

align="left" width="144" height="350">In October, there was plenty
to read about breast cancer, many posts to build awareness,
compassion and strategies for taking better care of your body and
maintaining good health. And then, just as quickly as November is
ushered in, the breast cancer buzz is gone and we're all about
Thanksgiving indulgence.

If you are like me, though, the fear of breast cancer is never far
from my thoughts about being healthy and living a long, long time.
I've known enough women who've bravely fought back against
breast cancer to know how fast and furious it can <a rel=
