I am a proud member of the statement lip cult. I joined last September, after the slew of unlikely colors that turned up at the Spring shows gave me the inspiration to do a little runway-to-reality trial and error on my own. What took me so long to drink the Kool-Aid? First of all, I have what I’ve been told is a charm-enhancing crooked jaw, although for the first few decades of my life I was convinced that it was less cute than clownish. Applying lipstick only exacerbated my wonky smile, so I gravitated toward moisturizing balms and clear glosses when it came to painting my pout. When I finally got over my personal insecurities and embraced said lopsided grin, it was the messy nature of lipstick itself that turned me off.
