align="right" width="240" height="180">According to
'science' and 'scientists,' private nicknames
foster closeness. To which I say "no doy, Einstein." Over
at The Today Show, they say that a study published in the
Journal of Social And Personal Relationships says that
relationship satisfaction increases in proportion to the amount of
"insider language" a couple uses.

Playing Games Is Good For Relationships

"right" width="240" height="180">"Quit playing games with my
heart," sang the Backstreet Boys, in 1996. They clearly
hadn't been involved in any long-term relationships—playing
games with your spouse may actually be a sign of a strong bond.
After being together with someone for a long time you start to
develop an inner world—inside jokes, funny nicknames, code words
and games—these are understandings that outsiders don't share:
a special, partnered intimacy. In today's New York
Times Michelle Slatalla <a rel="nofollow" href=

They live in a small town populated people they often see while
taking walks.

Crabmommy: Do you call your child by their real name or their many, many nicknames?

Little Potato. Tiny Tomato. Big Tiny. Baby Lady. Littles.
Litty. Tines. Teeny-Weeny. Ween. Neen. Bean. Cuddlebunny. Budgie.
Budgit. Littleton. Peedles. Sweetieluffs. Luffy.
Coconut...

You get it. The above is just the beginning of a list of
nicknames Crabhub and I have for Crabkid. And these don't even
include the many that riff on her actual name. Which is Adolfa!
(Kidding!)

Nicknaming: some do it to death, others don't seem
to do it at all.

Naked: Do you have a pet name for your sweetheart?

E calls me sparrow, and ----- . I call him honeybear, and
bitchface. We say baby, honey, sweetie, lovey, pumpkin, sugar pie,
honey bunch, lovey, lover, dollface, love of my life, you rotten
man, rudeface, gorgeous boy, beautiful girl, crazypants, bug,
McGinty. Probably he is going to kill me for telling you that. The
point is: We like nicknames. We are a fan of the nicknames. I think
I have only just scratched the surface of the nicknames that we
call each other, because they vary widely and range from the
nauseating to the hilarious to the mean but in a loving way, which
pretty much defines our relationship.

Do you like pet names? What are your favorite to call your favorite
people? What are your favorite to be called?
