We’re all trying to reduce, reuse, and recycle. It’s better for our
budgets and better for the planet. But school lunches present a
special challenge. Plastic containers can release harmful
chemicals, and paper bags just make more waste. What’s a
hoping-to-go-greener parent to do?

align="left" width="287" height="287">When I was training for a
three-day walking event to benefit a breast cancer charity about
six years ago, I ditched a huge drawer full of cheap, white cotton
socks and invested in several pairs of spendy, structured athletic
socks. Before that, I hadn't considered myself an athlete and I
certainly wasn't doing rigorous enough exercise to warrant
buying $15 socks. But when I realized that part of the reason my
feet were badly blistered, aching, and sweaty was the
stretched-thin cotton I was covering them, I was convinced it was
time to switch over.

I've got the winter doldrums. Out of nowhere - well, after
too many cold days being shut inside, actually - I decided my
daughter "needed" a new sweater. That's in quotes
because what almost three-year-old needs anything, really? As a
former and reformed shopper (thank you,…

For the first time in a long time, this summer-to-fall shift is
a back to school moment for real in my household -- my two and a
half year old begins a (very minimal) preschool program (in
October). We're going with her, as it's a cooperative school, and
generally anticipating a...

White Towels so Green: Organic Styles Classic Twill Towels

Maybe I am obsessed with bath sheets, but Organic Style's classic
twill towels are definitely worth obsessing over - I am wrapped with
them because they have the luxe look and absorbency of Frette without
having to fret about how they are manufactured. Their organic cotton is
grown in India by family farmers organized in cooperatives, so they are
good for the earth and the workers connected to them.
