User post: The New Face of SAHMS—STUCK-at-Home Moms

I'm a SAHM. For me, this used to stand for
"Stay-At-Home Mom". After my 4th child, I made the
difficult decision to give up my career and focus on my backyard,
and I made the choice to become a SAHM. Then the recession hit. And
with 5 children, I'm still a SAHM, but there is a new
definition for me now..."Stuck-at-Home
Mom".

I'd love a job. I'd love a paycheck. But, as a
writer with limited technology skills, I'm having trouble
figuring out my worth in the working world. What's my real-time
value?

align="left" height="400" width="266">Back when I had a full-time
job, I remember watching people on the TV news taking about how
long they’d been out of work. Top Silicon Valley executives,
experienced engineers, municipal water district employees, teachers
and bricklayers would preface their remarks with “I’ve been out of
work six months” or “It’s been 18 months” or “I haven’t been able
to find anything in almost a year.” I’d hear that and think they
mustn’t be trying very hard.

It's time for a Mom Confession — because,
let's face it, we're real mothers and sometimes it
doesn't work the way the parenting books say it
should.

This Week's Confession:

job if you earned more? Would you if he did?

In a 2005 Career Builder survey of full-time working dads with
children under 18, almost 50% answered yes.

This year, only 31% did.

Are <a rel="nofollow" href=

because more men have tried it now, and know the drudgery involved?
Or does today’s lower percentage reflect widespread financial
insecurity? Perhaps both.
