Are you a saver – and he’s a spender? How to fix those money problems

align="left" height="100" width="100">If you like to save for rainy
days and he’d rather buy umbrellas, rain gear, and rubber boots
when payday hits, then you’re coping with two different money
personalities!

Here are five money fixes…but first, financial guru Suze Orman
weighs in about money and relationships:

“Opposites may attract, but I wouldn't put my money on
a relationship of financial opposites,” says Orman.

But don’t worry: Just because Orman wouldn’t bet her money
on a couple with two different money personalities doesn’t mean
that couple is headed for relationship breakdown or serious
financial problems!

The two basic money personalities are savers and
spenders. If you’re a saver married to a spender – or a spender
married to a saver – you’ll run into different relationship
challenges than two spenders, or two savers.

Here are five ways to deal with those money
problems:

Who really wants to work? You've got farmer's markets and twelve loads of laundry on the mind. You've got a Mother's Day bike ride to plan and would rather be sorting through recipes online so you can take something to the potluck brunch that won't cause seven pounds of weight gain just by licking the spatula. You are ready for a giant coffee or gimlet, not more stuff to tick off from your to-do list.

Fear not, I've made it easy for you to avoid any of those to-do list items and still get your dose of healthy living (or close enough) posts in that are at home in other areas of Shine. The most work you'll need to do is click on the links, do some reading (skimming is also understandable at this point in the day) and possibly let out a little laugh or "hmmm." Easy peasy, right?

Suze Orman on lessons from her mom, just in time for Mother's Day

With Mother’s Day fast approaching, it’s easy to fall into the what-gift-should-I-get mode, when it might be so much more worthwhile to reflect on what gifts our mothers have given us, and thanking them for it.

As the youngest in my family with three older siblings, my mom was back to work full time as a school nurse from the time I was in second grade. So I came of age with a mom who enjoyed her work, was an equal partner with my dad on family finances and everything else, and who nudged me to always think about what I wanted to do for a living when I grew up. I am grateful to her for all of that.

This Mother’s Day is a good day to think about how our moms have influenced us in the choices we’ve made in our work and how we handle our money. So who else to better talk to about such matters than Suze Orman, best-selling author and omnipresent speaker on a mission to empower women to take charge of our financial lives? I spoke with Suze about her mom, Sue, who recently celebrated her 93rd birthday.
Time to set Ben Bernanke up with Suze Orman?

Forget governmental advisors and Harvard economists – we’d be better off setting our national financial policy with the “Duh!” advice from pop money shows. I would love to see Ben Bernanke call in to the Suze Orman show for the “Can I afford it?” segment…

SUZE: Hey everybody, we’ve got a special caller today! It’s Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke!

BEN: Hi Suze. Thanks for taking my call. Love your show. I’m a big fan.

SUZE: Thanks, Ben. Right back atcha. So, what can I do for you today?

BEN: Well, I know you normally take only one question per caller, but since these purchases are going to effect say, three hundred million or so people, you mind making an exception and running down a little list for me?

SUZE: No problem. Lay it on me. What do you want to buy?

BEN: Well, first I’d like to give everybody around $300 bucks, so it’ll cost me about $145 billion, give or take.

SUZE: I’m all for being generous Ben, but give me a little background here. Why do you want to make this purchase?
