that telltale tickle in the back of your throat--and you're in
the fast lane to Cold City, population: Check out some of the
weirder ways to keep your cold symptoms under wraps:

Secrets to workout success: Bob Harper on setting a smart pace

A few minutes ago, I caught myself staring at my computer screen. I
can't say how long I'd been in that zone, but I know that I
wasn't spacing. I was ticking through the items left on
today's to-do list, trying to figure out if there is any way I
can squeeze in a workout before it is time to close up the laptop
for the day.

There's time for a quick one, certainly. But I know if I head
out now, my mind will be focused elsewhere and I won't give the
attention to my posture, pace, and heart rate that I really need to
get the most out of my exercise.
align="left" width="287" height="287">When I was training for a
three-day walking event to benefit a breast cancer charity about
six years ago, I ditched a huge drawer full of cheap, white cotton
socks and invested in several pairs of spendy, structured athletic
socks. Before that, I hadn't considered myself an athlete and I
certainly wasn't doing rigorous enough exercise to warrant
buying $15 socks. But when I realized that part of the reason my
feet were badly blistered, aching, and sweaty was the
stretched-thin cotton I was covering them, I was convinced it was
time to switch over.

Many people looking to get into shape and lose weight choose
walking as a way to do so. It makes sense: It is
low-impact, pleasurable, and manageable for most fitness levels,
making it far from intimidating. Further, it has been
widely accepted that walking three…

minutes uses as much energy as leaving the lights on in five rooms
