Giz, don't know what field you are in, but I had the same issue about 100 years ago when I was young and working. First, pull your hair back. Not a pony tail, but maybe a messy-ish bun at the nape of your neck. Or at least a low pony at the nape of your neck. I have curls and that's a good way to tame them without killing your hair with a flat iron every day.

Don't wear a ton of makeup. Trust me. I used to work with someone who did that because she thought it made her look older and I can tell you her nickname was "clown face." Just be as natural as possible.

As for what to wear, dress more on the conservative side. Save the trendy clothes for after work. Think Ann Taylor casual, cardigans and slacks or skirts, that sort of thing. Try not to wear jeans (unless you have casual Friday, then make your jeans dark and without holes) or super-casual pants; and don't wear flirty skirts or trendy summer dresses. If your workplace is very casual, wear jeans but always wear nice, flattering more conservative shirts like cardigans and t's or button downs.

As for coworkers liking you no matter what--having been in a male-dominated field I can tell you that isn't going to work. Liking you and promoting you are always going to be two different things.

$55 for a serum is not that much money, especially when it lasts about 3 months. SO, break that down - you can afford $18 a month, can't you? Plus, there are cheaper options that are available, like ROC that is sold in wal-mart and has very simliar ingrediants.
As for the false lashes, I have to say, after watching Paula Deen and thinking that she is a gorgeous older lady, she wears false lashes! Probably not practical for everyday purposes, but a fun way to make yourself even prettier when you feel you need a boost!

I found an under eye moisturizer that works. It is a vitamin E stick that costs $3.99, and can be purchased at whole foods. I apply after my shower, then pat on concealer and a light touch of powder to set.

couldn't agree with Libby more --- $55.00 for serum is way out of league for most shoppers today -- maybe lancome has no idea US and Europe are in deep recession?

I know this seems counterproductive, but how about some tips for makeup and hairstyles to make one look older, or rather, more mature. I'm looking to make a move in my career and I work in a very male dominated field. I have years of experience, but I am young and female. Both of these things unfortunately work against me. To make matters worse, I look a couple of years younger than I am. This is great when I am out and about, but at work, age equals credibility to an extent. I know wearing my hair straight makes me look more mature than my natural ringlets, but it's a pain in the butt to do and I don't feel like fighting my natural hair everyday. I suppose I could wear harsh makeup or very conservatively cut clothing to look older, but that's not my style and I just think it looks ridiculous... Are there any other options?

Sorry, but fake eyelashes are ridiculous unless it's a special occassion. Too much trouble for every day. Also...$55 per ounce for skin serum? I have better things to spend my money on! Plus, after reading articles that say anti-aging creams, etc. don't work anyway, who is stupid enough to waste a bunch of money on them?
