Norman Jean RoyOlivia Wilde has smarts, beauty, talent--and more great beauty advice than you might think. In our October issue, the actress and political activist told writer David DeNicolo all about her top products, SoulCycle obsession, and biggest hair dye disaster.
Wilde loves a good mascara, like Revlon PhotoReady 3D Volume: "There is something about nice thick eyelashes that pulls an entire look together even if it's the only makeup item you're wearing."
The skin care product she can't live without: "[Kate Somerville ExfoliKate] gives my skin a good, deep cleaning without irritating it. My rule is to use it at least once a week."

She (and her hair) suffer for her art: "I have dyed it so many times for work that I'm surprised it is still attached to my head. Once, when dyeing it from very blonde to dark brown, it turned sewage green with a black stripe around my head. Not a good look."
Her daily diet is full of fruits and vegetables, but she doesn't fear carbs: "We've distanced ourselves from the beauty of food, the art of it. It makes me sad when people say, 'Oh, I don't eat gluten. I don't eat cheese. I don't eat this. So I eat cardboard.' ... I crave salty chocolate and/or onion rings--like every other 14-year-old boy."
Favorite workout routine: "SoulCycle! It never fails to kick my ass and makes me feel totally energized afterward."

How she dresses to flatter her shape: "I've thought for a long time that my body type would have worked well in the '70s. The idea that you could be a broad-shouldered, small-breasted woman and still wear really great outfits.... I don't think I would have done well in the '50s. I've been interested in '70s clothes since I was 12 and started vintage shopping."
The grooming ritual she would never let fiancé Jason Sudeikis witness: "Toenail clipping. Gross."
