Here in NYC, the leaves are changing to a crisp orange and the air finally has a hint of chill to it. I LOVE it! But what don't I love? All the hair issues that come with the colder weather. Thankfully, I've picked up a few smart tips over the years that fight the biggest issues for the season: tangles, static and hat head.

Say no to more tangles: Nothing makes hair look healthier than a weekly hair mask when fall hits (my fave is Shu Uemura Silk Bloom Restorative Treatment Masque)--especially when hair is fried from too much fun in the sun. So, when tangles take the front seat, I become religious about masks since healthy hair tangles less. If your strands tend to be oily, only apply the mask to the ends of strands only. If you're dry, comb it through from roots to end.

Fight hat head: Okay, so here's a weird tip that I swear works: before you put on your hat, roll up the front pieces of hair on to the top of your head and bobby-pin them in place. Then, put on your hat. When you head back indoors, unpin and unroll. You'll have volume instead of hat head!(This also works for the pieces around your crown if you prefer).

Stop static: Look like someone rubbed a balloon on your head? You can fight static two ways. For an emergency quick fix, rub a dryer sheet over strands (it'll leave you smelling like clean laundry as it flattens flyways). Or, opt for a spritz of hairspray with static-fighting benefits. I'm a huge fan of Oscar Blandi Lacca Hairspray, which is made from static-fighting sugar and smells like honeysuckle. It smells freakin' delicious!
