1,000-Calorie Meals... Are YOU Ordering Them?

If you do nothing else in the new year, resolve to NOT order these atrocious menu items! HG's got the 411 on some frightening foods for you...

Red Robin Royal Red Robin Burger: 1,191 calories & 83g fat!!!

This burger consists of a beef patty, bacon, mayo, TWO slices of cheese, and a fried egg. Necessary? Um, we think not. Unless it comes with a side of Lipitor. And even then... just NO.

Chili's Buffalo Chicken Fajitas (w/o tortillas OR fixings): 1,110 calories & 78g fat!!!

Buffalo chicken is pretty high in calories, being deep-fried and drenched in sauce. Factor in blue cheese, bacon bits, and ranch dressing? Even worse. Add an oily skillet of fajita veggies? Eeeeks. That gets you the calorie count you see above... and it ain't pretty. But THEN factor in all the fajita fixings and tortillas! That entire meal will total 1,720 calories and over 100g fat. AY CARAMBA!

The Cheesecake Factory Fried Macaroni and Cheese:

    1,528 calories & 63g saturated fat!!!

Four balls of crumb-coated mac 'n cheese sitting in a pool of creamy marinara sauce. Really? That's about 380 calories for one saucy orb of fried cheesy pasta. And take a second look at the numbers -- that's 63 grams of SATURATED fat. Because the Cheesecake people won't give the total fat count yet. (That makes us sad.)

Pizza Hut 9" Personal PANormous Pizza: 1,270 calories & 61g fat!!!

Does any calorie-conscious human really want to chow down an entire "PANormous" anything? That word alone is a flashing red warning light. 61 grams of fat!?! Too many of those, and your PANTS may be PANormous...

Domino's Pizza Pasta in a Bread Bowl, Chicken Alfredo:

    1,400 calories & 50g fat!!!

We're horrified. We're appalled. WHOSE idea was it to take a pasta dish drenched in cream sauce and dump it into a loaf of bread?! This is for the hall of shame, people. Carb overload, party of one...

The Olive Garden Tour of Italy: 1,450 calories & 74g fat!!!

Can't decide on which fattening Italian choice to eat? Olive Garden decided to triple the fattiness by putting it all on one plate. How convenient. This entree has meat lasagna AND fried chicken Parmesan AND fettuccini Alfredo. MAMMA MIA!

Yes, they are big and yes they are delicious. But here's my honest opinion. They guys and girls who write these are probably the people who rarely if ever make visits to the gym or get in any sort of workout. If that is your lifestyle, then yes, you should certainly be watching what you eat. If you regularly run, lift weights, or do body training (or any mix of the above) you'll be fine downing these sinful pleasures. I personally feel that a bit of sweat is a small price to pay for indulging every once in awhile.

Thanks for the tip! Now I know WHERE to eat. I'm so sick of low-fat this and diet that. It's an absolute chore for me to reach the 2400 calories I'm supposed to get--just to maintain--not to mention the few hundred more I need to keep up with being active.

I hoenstly don't know how obese people can keep up with the amount it must take to maintain obesity...not to mention how much money must be spent to sustain such a lifestyle. I guess livin' large has a double meaning.

Well, my feeling about this is that moderation is the key. You don't eat this meal every day, and if you know you are going for the big meal, you know not to eat a bunch before the big dining experience. Go for it, and forget dessert. Moderation is good. If you eat ten hamburgers a week, you are on the death charts, but if you have one, or two a week it is not going to harm you. Try moderation, and you will like it.

Honestly; if you don't want to eat these items good then don't.
BUT.... you are not my mommy or my gramma I am an adult who is perfectly able to decide what to eat on my own, so why don't you do the rest of us grown-ups a favor. Shut your pie ho;e and leave us the hell alone.
Although on second thought you probably don't eat pie either.

yes they are all very high in calories but if you are only eating them once every few months i'm sure it's not going to instantly make you fat. now if you eat there everyday or even once a week you may pack on the pounds. moderation is the key. the olive garden dish is my fav. it can feed me and my son plus have left overs for later.

AT OLIVE GARDEN, there are only 2 grams of saturated fat in SHRIMP PReMAVERA. Shrimp Premavera has fewer calories and fat than any other entree and is spicy, tantalizing and delectable. I eat it every single time!

What's so bad about calories? If you exercise and watch your weight then why not feed the machine?

Don't be dissing the egg on the cheeseburger. It may be a little non sequitor but eggs are generally good for you. Remove the beef and add fried bologna. mmmmmmm

Xman2, did you put down your video game long enough to sneak into your moms office and use the computer. Maybe one day you can move out of your parents house and get a nice little 1 bedroom of your own to play dungeons and dragons in. Until then keep scarfing down the calories and get your online dating profile updated fat a$$.

Here we fucking go again. I am so sick of this damn garbage being posted on yahoo. All the stuff that's listed is so damn good!! I hate chicken neck control freaks and neurotic women who determine whats good or bad for us. Your going to gain weight and develop health problems if you eat that type of stuff everyday. DUH!!!!!! The dishes listed above are meant to be enjoyed every once or even once a week. Not many people can afford to eat at those places every night and I actually did when I used to travel for work. I just wanted a bowl of chicken noodle soup by the time I got back home from the airport.

You an idiot and should be sterilized if you think the dishes Hungry (Anorexic) Girl listed are healthy. Hungry (Bulimic) Girl needs to take her fingers out of her mouth and quit telling people what they should and shouldn't be eating. I don't care if she wants to eat rabbit food and have toothpaste for desert. Just get your goddamn nose out of everyone else business you elitist chicken neck control freak!!

It's simple - eat this stuff all the time, and you may have a chance to appear on "The Biggest Loser". If you care about your appearance, these dishes are fine to enjoy occasionally, but in general, to keep your weight down, you'll have to workout and watch your calories. I hit the weight room 5 days a week, for about 45 minutes, and am only burning approximately 3200 calories a day (I recently started wearing a BodyBugg to track calories burned). It's very sobering when you keep track of calories consumed vs. calories burned. I still enjoy eating Mexican food every now and then, but there are plenty of cookbooks out there with very delicious and healthy alternatives. Everything in moderation...

Tell me anything, BUT don't tell me what TO EAT!!!!
    • Renee  •  2 years 4 months ago
C'mon people! You dont eat like this everyday. What? you go out once maybe 2 or 3 times a month(or every Friday for that cocktail & starter)
This is not going to kill you or your diet. Be sensible and enjoy your meals. Life is too short. I know,I know! it will be if you eat this stuff all the time.

There's too much importance placed on fat and calories here. I disagree with the extreme emphasis the article seems to make about fat being the bad guy. Fat doesn't make you fat. Refined carbs, with all the white flour in the burger buns and pasta, are the real nutritional bad guys whether you're underweight, average or overweight. That and too much salt poured into most restaurant foods. Like a lot of other posters, I agree that an infrequent splurge on a decadent restaurant meal isn't going to matter for people who eat healthy foods the majority of the time. (And who can't eat a 9 inch personal pizza by themself??? Yum!)

This article is too narrow to be impactful. There's no substance about total nutritional concerns. Instead of buying the author's book, I think I'll go spring for a Red Robin burger next month on my "treat day".

Why would ANYBODY eat @ these national chains? Most of the menu items are processed, frozen and prepackaged - full of unneccessary fat, sugar and preservatives. Find a few local places that serve freshly prepared dishes and/or local ingredients (when possible) and support your local businesses - not some faceless corporation.
