Randy's Donuts in LA - the best I've ever had hands down!! I stumbled upon Randy's on the way to LAX and noticed the line of cars and people in front of the vintage-looking donut shop. Not only were they addictively delicious, but they were also inexpensive. I even had extras to eat on the plane ride back to DC. Needless to say, they were gone before we even got in the air.

STAN'S DONUTS in Westwood near UCLA is the best in Los Angeles. Randy's Donuts is okay, but they are nothing compared to Stan's.

Every city has it's own place, but in Los Angeles, it's STAN'S DONUTS in Westwood!!

If you are in the Mountain West you have to stop in at Banbury Cross Donuts in Salt Lake City. It is an institution in this area. A meeting is not complete without them.

The author of this story has NEVER been to Long's Bakery in Indianapolis. Their donuts MELT in your mouth. I'm sure the shops that were chosen are good, but don't leave out Longs until you have tried them. They are to die for!!!!!!!!!

The writer seems more interested in the building and landmarks, than the actual taste, originality, ingredients, etc of the donuts themselves. Was he after a slice of Americana...or the best donuts???
I think he failed at one task.

BtwaaaWhitneyville donut shop in Hamden CT is fantastic...every donut is made from scratch....no chain donut shop here.

If you have not tried the Donut Stop in Amarillo, Texas then you should. They would definitely make the top 10. I have tried Shipleys, Round Rock, Voodoo & Doughnut Plant and although all of them are great if you go through Amarillo on your way to skiing in Colorado or New Mexico go to Donut Stop. It is worth a stop especially early in the morning when the donuts are warm. There are multiple locations but the easiest one to get to if you are traveling through is at I-40 and Bell Street.
