    Why should pancakes have all the fun? Here are six unexpected ways to turn our favorite batter into dinner or dessert.



    Start with our favorite batter recipe:


    In a bowl, whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon sugar and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Beat in 1 cup milk, 3 beaten eggs, 5 tablespoons melted butter and 1 tablespoon vegetable oil until smooth. Makes 2 1/2 cups.

      My after-school snack was a sacred ritual. I sat on the carpet in my parents' bedroom at a low table, the television turned to "I Dream of Jeannie," and ate a peanut butter and honey sandwich cut into neat squares. I wasn't fussy about crusts. I just loved the sticky pairing of creamy peanut butter with syrupy golden sweetness drizzled from a honey bear in diagonals across the soft white bread.
