yuck. Gelatin is from boiled animal bones...so, Jello is boiled animal bones and sugar. Bah.

Thanks Tess and Susan, now I REALLY know why I think jello is just plain nasty.

I've made the layered rainbow ring. It was beautiful, but a huge amount of work. Essentially, you are making 6 jello flavors and half of each has sour cream added and you have to time everything perfectly to get the layers to stick to one another without muddying each other up. If you have the patience, make it just once to thrill your kids.

Use plain gelatin and fruit juice. It's tastier and probably has more vitamin c. Real lemon juice is sooo much better than out of a box.

      Most of those look nauseating.

They're beautiful, but I don't think I like Jello enough to make a mold.

This just proves my point that Jello is NOT an eatable food! ... :)

Jello brand makes pumpkin pie pudding and it's so delicious. Now I want to try making pumpkin jello. I'd like to try making a jello poke cake with pumpkin jello. YUM!

The "Rainbow Ring" is just too cool! I don't care that much for plain jello but there are two jello dishes that I've grown up with that I love. I'll blog about them rather than write the whole recipes out in comments.

Jello is edible. They're called "Jello Jigglers" and can be cut out using your favorite holiday cookie-cutters. I've made them over the years! The kids are grown but we continue to make them for the younger nieces and nephews and they love them. Always a hit even with the adults.

Someday85, here's the recipe for you. Enjoy.

Here's an easy way to get fruit into your kids' tummies:

      Ruby Gelatin Fruit Salad

1 -3 oz. pkg. cherry, raspberry, or cranberry Jello
      1 C. boiling water
1 C. EACH: orange juice, fine chopped apple, banana slices
1/2 C. chopped walnuts or pecans

Dissolve Jello in boiling water. Add orange juice. Let set in frig until partially set.
Fold in fruit and nuts. Set until firm.
For company, prepare in a pretty glass bowl. Before serving, pipe Dream Whip around the edges or dollops of Cool Whip. Garnish with apples slices dipped in lemon juice ( to prevent browning)

Jello tastes nasty, and none of this is vegan. When jello isn't vegan you know what that means? It means that its made out of ground hooves and bones from those poor animals like cows, pigs and horses. :(
