America's Top Diners (and What to Order at Them)

    By Bon Appétit magazine

Chefs are revolutionizing an American classic with short-order cooking that's long on creativity. Yes, eggs are still on the menu, but so is the name of the farm they're sourced from, as well as quirky twists on old favorites, like pickle-juice egg salad sandwiches and maple-bacon doughnuts. Here are the best places to taste the trend.

Foie Gras? In a diner? A diner is a place for bacon and eggs or a decent burger. save the Foie Gras for the Waldorf. I'll go to Waffle House

I don't know how one would define "diner," but living in Austin, I'd recommend Threadgills before anything else. Of the two locations, the original is housed in a former filling station (very dineresque if you ask me); both have awesome memorabilia from the Austin music scene going back to Janis Joplin's days at UT and Willie's arrival in the '70s; and the food is basic, down home fabulous. And the south location has great live music Wed. thru Sat. Check it out.

Boy, I really did take advantage of the Bacon Craze at Denny's here in Houston during April and part of May! I have always 'loved' bacon (crispy) and tried not to 'over-do'. Now my "cholesterol" on the other hand...??? I do sometimes 'cheat'! Didn't think that I'd 'live' this long. But, still 'here' by the Grace of God! So, 'living' a little!

Absolutely a rip off headline. There is not one real diner among them. It just goes to show how little
you can trust any press reports these days. DINER-definition: See New Jersey. Ask anyone walking the sidewalks of any town where the best diner is and get 10 different answers. There are NO diners anywhere else worth the name.

you can call any restaurant you want a diner....but foie gras does not belong in a diner

I have looked at your top diners article, and could not agree less with any of your choices. These are not even diners, they are simple cafe's or restaurants. You are obviously a spoiled eclectic, modern west coast kinda person and don't have a clue what a diner is. Come to the midwest or oklahoma and discover what a true diner is....with a bar and stools and a few small booths oppisite. There is not enough food on any of your choice restaurants to even make the menu at a real diner and nothing authentic about any of them, no history, just glitz.

Whoever wrote this article needs pick another profession. Everyone knows what diner food is and unless these are diners for The Real Housewives (of any city or state), no real american wants this crap.

Me Too Dave!!!! I want a diner or a pub. The diner would in no way be like the ones mentioned here with the exception of Wells, though. We have real diners here like O'Rourke's Diner, OLYMPIA DINER, Skee's Diner, Modern Diner, The Fish Tale Diner, WETHERSFIELD DINER and Curly's!

The roasted banana and brown sugar milkshake sounds pheonominal :) My favorite diner is Jenny's Diner in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Huge portions, low prices, and classic, comforting, diner favorites :)

I do not know who gets to pick these places or what has to be ordered!
Who ever it is should be stood in front of a flipping wall and shot.

There isn't one of these things that I would ever want to eat except the maple bacon doughnut which at least sounds potentially tasty as a one bite wonder.

Yuck- faux diner eats- real crappy nouveau/fusion items thrown together in an effort to be cutting edge.

These aren't diners... they're Bistro's or Cafe's... but not diners.

Rose Bud Cafe in Florence Colorado has the best green chili and a killer breakfast burrito with coffee.

Why aren't there any diners from NJ on this list?! We have some of the best diners in the country!

My favorite two are, Tic Tock in Clifton and the Brownstone in Jersey City!
