    Big Bite Taste Test: Bacon!

We taste-tested pounds of bacon from the grocery store to find these sizzling winners.

BEST ORIGINAL: Ozark Trails Hickory Smoked and Peppered Bacon

Tasters loved this hand-trimmed winner for its "campfire smokiness" and "deep pig flavor." Eating these hearty slabs, with their ideal meat-to-fat ratio, made one judge "feel like a lumberjack." Read the full review »

    How we'd eat it:
Crisscross strips atop a burger for extra crunch, or eat with fried eggs at breakfast.

BEST THICK-CUT: Jimmy Dean Thick Slice Premium Bacon

BEST TURKEY: Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon

BEST SWEET: Beeler's Uncured Apple-Cinnamon Bacon

The best 'grocery store' variety has got to be Winn Dixie's Pinky Pig (especially the thick sliced)! I'd travel to the other side of the city to buy a pound of it!

Bacon is only good when you have it with good old fashioned real cheese grits. That instant crap is for Yankees who don't know better

What? times, and had to spit it out. Then I had to "get over" the horrible lingering memory. I cannot believe it was voted "best" much less that it is even on store shelves.

I was surprised that Trader Joe's Uncured Turkey Bacon didn't win. It's fantastic. Did they even test that brand?

Thick sliced Plumrose brand. Very tasty indeed. Tastes like old-time bacon used to taste. Can buy it at Wal-mart, which I know doesn't say much for it, but it IS very good bacon.

I have glanced through all of the comments and I cannot, for the life of me, understand why anyone has not mention the best bacon in the world period.
      The end.
      Done.

The best bacon that I have ever used is from Boar’s Head out of New York City- That’s Right New York City.

It is only available in certain stores in the south or directly from Boar’s Head.

      ps
For those of you who love that crispy bacon – put it on a rack when it is done.

Bacon should be called what it is...pig fat with pig. Pork is pig, Pork chops are pig and any way you slice it it's pig. And pig is not meat, Thrifty Shopper. It's pig. Yeah, just like Charlotte's web.

Mountain Products is a small mom and pop company and they have a website where you can order their bacon. I usually get it at a local New York Store called Adams, but the website is cool. They have nitrate free bacon too.

I only buy crumbled bacon at the grocery's salad bar. You get to get a little taste first and then buy if it's up to par. Only $6/lb and you can buy as little/much as you want/need. I essentislly use it as condiment, but if you pile it on it works instead of slices. Freeze it and scoop out what you need. I love to find a bar that has the "powdered" version.
