Denny's is best known for their Grand Slam breakfast as well as their newer menu items that made the worst fast food options last year and were sure that their new line-up will be a follow-up to last years "win". Their newest shock-and-awe products revolve around cheese, which is why their calling it their "let's get cheesy" campaign. There are 8 new items in the line: Mac 'n Cheese Big Daddy Melt, Cheesy Breakfast Sampler, Cheese Please Omelette, The Big Country-Fried Steak & Eggs, Winner Winner Cheesy Dinner, Say Cheese Sizzlin' Skillet, Mac 'n Cheese, Strawberry Cheesecake Puppies with Cream Cheese Icing, and finally a Strawberry Cheesecake Milk Shake. Every item sounds and looks interesting to us, however we only tried out a few bites of the new items and split them between everyone here because we know that portion control is key!
The new Mac 'n Cheese Big Daddy Melt is " A hand-pressed beef patty topped with our NEW creamy Mac 'n Cheese, melted Cheddar cheese and zesty Frisco sauce on grilled potato bread. Served with a side of our wavy-cut French fries," the flavors didn't really work for us with everything being mashed together into one sandwich that really made for quite a mess. The mac & cheese on its own wasn't that bad but it wasn't great either, while the patty melts were OK with the toasted buns the meal as a whole was a failure. The item that sounded most interesting was the Cheesecake Puppies with Cream Cheese Icing which are "Six bite-sized round pancakes made with strawberry and white chocolate chips. Sprinkled with powdered sugar and served with a side of cream cheese icing for dipping." The Puppies on their own aren't half bad but were too sweet for some of our tasters, while the icing is overkill on all counts of being just pure sugar, making it an unnecessary side item for these Puppies. We we're afraid to try the other menu items, however if you do try them out let us know what you think because were always interested to hear what other people are saying about these new items. Overall (2 out of 5).
The pros are that if you like cheese than this could be a good option for you, the Puppies are inventive if nothing else, and new menu items are always exciting.
The cons are that the Puppies are a little too sweet, and the texture could've been crisper, the nutritional profile is out of whack even if you split it up but then again you might not care if you're ordering it, and the mac & cheese in the patty melt was way off on everything.
