Guiltless indulgences: six 100-calorie (or less!) desserts

My wedding is a mere 6 weeks away. And with my final dress fitting just around the corner I'm focused on not gaining-or losing-any weight. I'm on track weight-wise (now, if my arms could just look like Michelle Obama's…), but lately my sweet tooth has been getting the better of me. So to satisfy my dessert cravings, but not go overboard, I've been whipping up some of these low-calorie dessert recipes-that way I only have to cut back a little bit at one of my other meals.

If you're like me and trying to maintain your weight-or maybe even drop a few pounds-don't feel like you need to banish dessert altogether. Indulge guiltlessly with these 100-calorie (or less!) desserts.

    1. Indoor S'Mores: No fire required here! This delicious dessert takes 5 minutes, or less, to whip up. Delish!

    Ingredients:
2 whole graham crackers, broken in half
    4 marshmallows
2 tablespoons bittersweet chocolate chips, melted (see Tip)

    Preparation:
    1. Position oven rack in the upper third of the oven; preheat broiler.
    2. Place graham cracker halves on a baking sheet; top each with 1 marshmallow. Broil, with the oven door ajar and watching carefully, until the marshmallows are golden brown, 45 to 75 seconds. Remove from the oven and drizzle each S'more with a little melted chocolate.

Tip: To melt chocolate: Microwave on Medium for 45 seconds. Stir, then continue microwaving on Medium in 20-second intervals until melted, stirring after each interval. Or place in the top of a double boiler over hot, but not boiling, water. Stir until melted.

    Makes 4 servings.

    Per serving: 98 calories; 3 g fat (1 g sat); 18 g carbohydrates; 1 g protein; 70 mg sodium; 33 mg potassium.

    2. Almond & Honey-Butter Cookies: When they were testing these in the EatingWell Test Kitchen I couldn't stay away! This thumbprint cookie uses honey as the only sweetener and tender ground almonds to replace much of the butter found in similar cookies.

    3. Italian Hazelnut Cookies: These crispy cookies are made with hazelnuts and eggs, which packs them with a powerful, sweet, nutty burst of flavor.

    4. Boot Tracks: This quick, no-fuss, chewy chocolate cookie is made on your waffle iron. Making it even easier, there's no need to haul out the big mixer: you can mix the batter with a small hand mixer or even by hand.

    5. Vanilla-Orange Freezer Pops: These creamy vanilla-flavored orange juice pops transport me back to the days of standing in line at the ice cream truck.

    6. Chocolate & Nut Butter Bites: Another sweet satisfaction ready in seconds! I like to keep these ingredients on hand at the office.

    Ingredients:
    8 1/4-ounce squares bittersweet chocolate
4 teaspoons almond, cashew or pistachio butter

    Preparation:
Top each chocolate square with 1/2 teaspoon nut butter of your choice (almond, cashew, pistachio).

    Makes 4 servings.

    Per serving: 79 calories; 6 g fat (2 g sat, 1 g mono); 9 g carbohydrates; 1 g protein; 1 g fiber; 12 mg sodium; 20 mg potassium.

Most of you are crazy. I believe in indulging in a regular treat every once in a while than to eat a substitute. Yes eating large amounts of sugar everyday is not good for your body, but indulging once or twice a week in something you truely like is not going to make you super fat and die. The media has made people miserable to live.

Recipes looked and sound good. But it didn't show the sugar content. Which is also important maybe not to everyone but to some people.

Sugar is not ALL BAD if you can police yourself and not over do it. I have tried numerous types of diets all with the same result which was basically nothing. Five years ago I managed to lose 100 pounds and have only put back on 8 pounds due primarily to regular heavier weight lifting. I had decided that the only true way to lose the weight was good old fashioned cardio workouts and cutting out the faast food so now I pretty much eat what I want which drives my wife nuts. As far as just buying the smartones, weight-watchers or skinny cow that's the easy way instead of actually MAKING SOMETHING yourself and besides do you really know what is in that stuff anyway?

The average woman isn't interested in "sensible treats". They want calories plain and simple. Get over it ladies!

      In response to Wmu:

I lost 75lbs with a diet filled with these. None of those products have partially hydrogenated oils. I checked. Also, I exercise every day of the week so I'm sure I'm fine with eating my Lean Cuisines, Smart Ones, and Skinny Cows products. Thanks.

Why not substitute honey or maple syrup for all that sugar.....or better yet just have fruit.

You guys who suggest that sugar is bad but then suggest eating fruit and honey need to realize that you body doesn't process natural sugars any differently than refined sugars. The fruit is fine because aside from sugars it contains vitamins, minerals, and fiber but to your body refined sugar and honey are the same.

A couple of these look delish! I don't know about you guys, but I certainly can eat one and it satisfies my taste buds. Of course, I would eat it after a meal and not just snack on it, that helps.

They're right...these recipes are loaded with sugar. 100 calories are ok but the sugar not so much. Can we get some recipes that have lower sugar content? Thanks

Bad recipes. Even worse was throwing in Michelle Obama's arms. I don't get why every "nutritional" blog these days has to comment on them! She's not in shape at all - arms included!! BTW, can I have the five minutes back it took me to read and comment on this utter BS?

What is wrong with all of you fatties? Why not quit counting calories and get some exercise in. Waaaaa!!!! I'm fat, but if I eat 40 calories a day less, I'll lose 120 lbs like I need to. Get off your fat asses and run!!!!!!!

The more you talk about eating light, the hungrier I get. I'm male and losing weight is no easier than eat cardboard and exercise.

These look good and OK calorie wise...but the sugar. The sugar is the slippery slope for me and one of these lo-cal treats could push me off a high sugar cliff that would lead to many more calories. I'm better to stick with fruit or make a sugar free hot cocoa type thing. These are lovely but if you're sugar sensitive...may not be a safe choice. Happy Nuputials!
