    Heaven on a Stick: How to Make Deep-fried Cheese Pops at Home

Whether it's the buttery batter, the gooey, melted cheese, or fond childhood memories of going to the fair...fried cheese is a favorite indulgence of mine. Since state fairs only come around once or twice a year, why not make these popular treats at home! Here is a simple 6-step recipe for delicious deep-fried cheese pops.

    Make Fried Cheese Pops

    Ingredients:

    • 1 lb. muenster or monterey jack cheese, cut into 3/4″ cubes
    • 1 cup flour
    • 1/4 cup cornmeal
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
    • 1 1/4 cup beer or water
    • 2 cups oil for frying

    Directions:

    Step 1: Press sucker sticks into the center of each cheese cube.

    Step 2:
    In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, baking soda, salt, lemon juice and beer. Add more beer, if needed, until the mixture is about the thickness of pancake batter.

    Step 3: Dip cheese sticks into the batter, completely covering the cheese with the batter.

    Step 4: Heat oil in a small pot to medium heat.

    Step 5: Dip the cheese portion of each stick into the hot oil, just until golden brown (about 20-30 seconds).

    Step 6:
    Remove, serve and enjoy!
