Japan's Burger King to make fast food's largest burger

You know those oversize burgers that restaurants sell as a challenge, or rather, a joke for patrons? Well Burger King in Japan is doing it for real.

BK's far east franchise will be rolling out a 22-cm wide pizza-sized Whopper, perhaps the biggest burger ever sold at one of the giant fast food franchises.

Not technically a Whopper as we know it, the Japanese mega-version comes in two flavors: "fresh avocado" and "nacho flavor". You can also choose to share the meal with other people in order to avoid a heart attack. But that face-sized slider might just make it into one mouth only, especially for BK eateries in Osaka, a city with a tradition of "eating till you drop".

According to Eater.com, the giant burger is part of a Christmas promotion. Fast food has become a big deal around the holidays in Japan. Last year, buckets of KFC were so in demand, patrons had to place orders two weeks in advance. "Our holiday sales are five to ten times higher than other months," a Japan-based KFC spokesman told ABC News in 2010. "In Japan, Christmas equals KFC."

Clearly, Burger King is looking to change that this year, one massive burger patty at a time.
