    Peanut Butter and Jelly Sushi

    By Michael Singer, Bon Appétit

Maybe you're a "choosy mom" who birthed an even choosier kid? She won't eat maki, but only will eat foods that resemble maki? Jif has a recipe catered to this exact situation. Their Peanut Butter and Jelly Sushi Rolls take three ingredients, three steps, and three minutes. Of course continuing that oddball toddler's chopstick lessons may add to the total time.

    Here's how to make it:

    Ingredients:

    • 2 tablespoons Jif® Creamy Peanut Butter
    • 2 tablespoons Smucker's® Strawberry Jelly, or any Smucker's® Jam, Jelly or Preserves of your choice
    • 2 slices bread

    Directions:

    1. REMOVE crusts from bread. With a rolling pin or large soup can, completely flatten bread.
    2. SPREAD 1 tablespoon peanut butter and 1 tablespoon fruit spread on each slice of bread
    3. ROLL each slice into a tight spiral. Cut each spiral into 4 pieces.

Does the bread dry out and get nasty if made for a party and sits out for awhile??

Very cute idea... despite the sushi snobs below. Who cares what it's called? My kids are going to love the idea. :)

Good grief, people, lighten up! It's a cute twist on PB&J. As a mom who is now packing lunch for a 6-year-old, I'm open to all the creative ideas I can find, whether they're "technically" named correctly or not. Sheesh.

My daughter LOVES these I've been making them for years now! I make them with cream cheese and salami to. It works for a number of combos, I've even done it with Vietnamese sandwhiches (those were really cute!) I suggest to roll them then wrap them tight in platic wrap and refridgerate overnight before cutting into slices otherwise they kind of mush down.

Sorry Ms. Canole, Robin J. is right. Sushi IS a finger food. Traditionally, nigiri, fish on top of a rice ball, is meant to be eaten with the hands. Sashimi, fish alone, is meant to be eaten with chopsticks. Norimaki, sushi rolls, should also be eaten by hand, because they fall apart so easily.

CG is right, sushi is called sushi because of the rice used. And I wouldn't say sushi is a finger food, I'm all about using chopsticks. :)

P.S. Just change the name to back pinwheels like Whatshername said.

if your kid is such a picky eater that you need to do this to get them to eat peanut butter and jelly then there's something wrong with your kid

I made these for myself when I was 7 from a Strawberry Shortcake recipe book - they are called "pinwheels"!

People have been doing this for ages. And if I'm recalling properly, they were called "pinwheels" previously. Renaming it "sushi" is just trying too hard to be trendy.

It's still a really awesome food though.

It's cute. And, since sushi is technically a finger food, so I see no reason this "sushi" can't follow suit. ^_^
