Scotch in a Can is Good for No Man (or Woman)

When I think of scotch, I think dark wooded libraries, men with cigars, maybe an ascot here or there. I don't think of some dude poppin' a top and slamming it down. Yet that's just what's coming our way soon -- scotch in a can. Classy!

That's right, Scottish Spirits is bringing this bizarre beverage to U.S. shelves as soon as next month. And besides just taking scotch down a serious notch on the class scale, it sounds dangerous.

I know, I know, champagne in a can sounded like a bad idea too, but it actually turned out to be quite delightful. And in that case, it actually helps with moderation because you can have a single glass without wasting an entire bottle of bubbly. In the case of the scotch, it just promotes excess as there's no lid or good way for storing it. So you might as well keep pouring it down, right?

Each can contains, not just one shot of scotch or two, but rather each one contains EIGHT shots of the blended scotch whisky. The stuff is 80 proof, which is a whole can of trouble waiting to happen. Oh, and they're only going to be $5 a piece, so you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Product promoters say it's all about convenience. Ken Rubenfeld, vice president of operations for Scottish Spirits Imports, told the Huffington Post:

A lot of people like to have beverages by their pool, on their boat, in a campground, at sporting events or tailgate parties. It's easier to bring a six pack of a beverage verses bringing a bottle of scotch.

A six pack of the stuff is flat out terrifying, and what's the matter with a nice flask for those occasions?

Though they tout the high quality and exquisite taste of the scotch, I'm thinking the fraternity houses who buy it by the case aren't going care much about that when they're scooping it up for one of the cheapest buzzes around. Have we learned nothing from Four Loko?

I'm not sure which is worse, the sandwich in a can or this scotch in a can, but I wish we would can this trend right quick.

Would you drink scotch from a can? Do you think this is a bad idea?
