Sweet Sensation: Prepare Homemade Fruit Snacks They'll Love

How to Make Homemade Fruit SnacksThe possibilities are endless with this recipe for homemade fruit snacks! You can use any combination of fruit and juice, control the sugar content, and have a fun little project at the end - my toddler loves using the tiny shape cutters to stamp out dozens of fruit snacks.

The fruit snacks I made used strawberries for the fruit and orange, lemon, and lime juice for the liquid part. You can pick whatever fruit you'd like, but be sure to avoid pineapple, kiwi, figs, papaya, mango and guava, since they won't gel.

    Directions:

    1. Line a 9x9 baking pan with tinfoil

    2. In a medium sauce pan, combine fruit and juice, cooking over medium heat until the fruit is soft, about 5-7 minutes. Add sugar to taste. When you've arrived at a sweetness level you're happy with, add the gelatin and stir until both the gelatin and sugar are completely dissolved.

    3. Transfer mixture to a blender or food processor (or use an immersion blender) and processes until very smooth.

    4. Pour into prepared pan and refrigerate for at least one hour or until mixture is very solid.

    5. Remove tinfoil and fruit mixture from the pan, unmold from the tinfoil and cut into squares or use tiny cookie cutters to cut into individual pieces. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

My after-school snack was a sacred ritual. I sat on the carpet in my parents' bedroom at a low table, the television turned to "I Dream of Jeannie," and ate a peanut butter and honey sandwich cut into neat squares. I wasn't fussy about crusts. I just loved the sticky pairing of creamy peanut butter with syrupy golden sweetness drizzled from a honey bear in diagonals across the soft white bread. Nothing else--save for maybe apples and peanut butter in a pinch--could have made for as sweet an
